Search and Support San Antonio continue to search for missing woman Katelyn Vara with the aid of a psychic medium.
SAN ANTONIO — A non profit organization continued its efforts to locate a missing San Antonio woman on Sunday, leading a search in a wooded area near, where she was last seen.
Search and Support San Antonio, organized the operation in hopes of uncovering new evidence in the disappearance of Katelyn “Kate” Vara, who vanished more than a year ago.
“This is actually the second time we’ve come out to this area,” Eric Herr, VP Search & Support San Antonio said.
Vara was 26, when she was last seen on August 6, 2024.
According to her family, she left her home on Maria Elena Drive, near Culebra Road, to attend a medical appointment. She made it to the appointment, but never returned home, leaving behind her young son.
San Antonio police say someone called 911 from Vara’s phone at a Northeast-side motel, but the caller hung up.
Officers responding to the scene spoke with witnesses who claimed Vara had been assaulted, though no evidence was found at the motel.
Joining Sunday’s search was psychic medium Vic Andrea, who has been working with Vara’s mother, Valerie Mendoza, since February.
“She is simply looking to gain closure,” Andrea said.
Andrea claims she receives visions and impressions from conversations with family members, which help identify potential “hot spots” for search efforts.
“Based off those notes, I get visions, signs, and feelings. That leads me to specific areas, what I would call a hot spot.” Andrea said.
Andrea’s guidance led volunteers to the location on Sunday. Eric Herr, a team lead with Search and Support San Antonio, said the information from the psychic had similarities to information police had received but had not made public.
“We had a psychic who gave us some information, and it actually was corroborated by the police,” Herr said. “It was almost the same information that the police had not released.”
The exact location of Sunday’s search is being withheld due to the ongoing nature of the police investigation. However, Herr said searchers focused on a two-mile radius in a wooded area.
“We’re still very interested in this area,” Herr said. “We’re looking for any information, any articles of clothing, any signs that she was here. She was in a location not too far from here the day she disappeared.”
Vara’s case remains an active investigation by the San Antonio Police Department.
Andrea, the psychic medium, previously assisted a caregiver, and authorities in finding a missing elderly man, in January of this year.
