Kamehameha! Get to know about San Antonio Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox’s fandom for the Dragon Ball anime series.
SAN ANTONIO — In case you didn’t know, San Antonio Spurs‘ De’Aaron Fox is a huge anime fan.
From “Hunter X Hunter,” “Avatar: The Last Airbender” animated series, and others, he is a massive fan of the animation genre, but the wildly popular Dragon Ball series is near and dear to him.
He even had his wife sit with him and watch all the anime episodes he’s seen, from Dragon Ball to Dragon Ball Z and beyond.
Fox isn’t just a fan; he’s a part of the Dragon Ball community and a brand ambassador for the manga’s video game component.
Most recently, he appeared in a commercial for the 10th anniversary of the mobile game Dragon Ball: Dokkan Battle, where he talked about his love of the anime and what it means to him.
Before he was sidelined for the remainder of the season to correct a finger injury, Fox participated in the “Game In The Park” event hosted by the Spurs, where local gaming fans gathered to watch Fox and popular Fortnite gaming legend SypherPK take the stage inside the Alienware mobile station.
While there, I chatted with the All-Star guard about his love for the Dragon Ball series in this Q&A.
Jeff: So you are helping to promote Dragon Ball Dokkan Battle; what’s up with the game?
De’Aaron: So this was the 10th anniversary of the one that I just played, but I played early on when we were in high school. But it’s all it was always, at the time, this is a weird game because you’re getting cards, and it’s like when people play Candy Crush.
But then, through the years, you play a little more and you start to understand a little more.
It’s fun because I’ve watched all of Dragon Ball and all of Dragon Ball Z, so you kind of understand what’s going on.
Jeff: Is the original video game Dragon Ball: Budokai still the best?
De’Aaron: I would say it’s Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3. But the one that I was best at was Dragon Ball: Xenoverse series. Those came out when I was in high school.
Jeff: Give me your Dragon Ball video game starting five Dragon Ball team!
De’Aaron: Are we talking about my favorite or someone I would fight with? Because Vegeta is my favorite, but I wouldn’t fight with Vegeta.
So, Hit would be first, Gotenks would be second, and I think you have to go Super Saiyan God Goku. Jiren wasn’t that great in the game and was too big. Broley is always good in every game, and then I would go Beerus or Whis for the fifth spot—one of those two.
Jeff: What’s your favorite Dragon Ball arc?
De’Aaron: My favorite arc is the Cell arc, easily. Android arc and Cell arc are technically two different ones. So, I would go Cell arc after the Android arc when they become good.

Jeff: Are you glad that Super Saiyan 4 is now canon?
De’Aaron: Yeah, for sure! Yeah!
