QB Shedeur Sanders enters game for Cleveland Browns in relief of injured starter Dillon Gabriel

Quarterback Shedeur Sanders made his NFL regular-season debut, entering the Browns’ game against Baltimore during the third quarter in relief of Dillon Gabriel.

CLEVELAND — It’s the closest the Cleveland Browns will come to seeing Prime Time action in 2025: Shedeur Sanders has taken his first regular-season snaps as an NFL quarterback.

Sanders’ debut came in the third quarter of the Browns’ tilt against AFC North rivals Baltimore. With Cleveland starter Dillon Gabriel in the locker room being evaluated for a concussion, Sanders entered the game under center to begin the second half — to loud cheers from the Cleveland faithful at Huntington Bank Field.

On his debut drive, Sanders and the Browns went three-and-out after a holding penalty stalled momentum after a first-down completion. Sanders completed his two pass attempts on the drive, which ended on a third-and-eight sack and Sanders fumble that was recovered by Cleveland’s Wyatt Teller.

On his second drive, Sanders threw an interception to Baltimore’s Nate Wiggins on a short pass intended for Jerry Jeudy. Sanders was not punished for that mistake; the Browns took the ball right back with an interception by rookie Carson Schwesinger.

With just over five minutes left in the third quarter, Gabriel was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
