Radio the sweet shepherd just needs a quiet home to heal | Forgotten Friends

Radio, a 1-year-old German Shepherd, is loving, playful and waiting for a foster or forever home to begin heartworm treatment.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

If you’re looking for a best friend who just wants to love you back, meet Radio. 🐾

Radio is a 1-year-old German Shepherd with a gentle soul who’s been waiting at the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area (HSNBA) since February 10 after being found wandering in Comal County.

Staff say she’s the kind of dog who makes people stop and smile.

She’s affectionate, playful and loves to cuddle, and she already walks nicely on a leash. There’s even a good chance she’s house-trained. And yes, she’s a fan of treats and all the pets she can get.

But here’s the part that makes her a little bit of a “Forgotten Friend.”

Radio is heartworm positive, which means she needs treatment — and she can’t start that healing process in a busy shelter environment.

What she really needs is a calm, loving foster or adopter who can give her a low-stress place to recover.

Shelter staff say she’s generally laid-back and low energy, making her a great fit for a quieter home. She’s done well with some dogs, though meet-and-greets are recommended to find the right match.

“This is one of the hardest cases for us,” a staff member shared. “Radio is just so sweet — even people who don’t usually go for shepherds fall in love with her.”

Fostering would mean helping Radio get started on treatment, with occasional check-ins at the shelter. Adopting her? That means giving this loving girl the second chance she’s been waiting for.

Right now, Radio doesn’t need much, just a place to feel safe, rest and finally start getting better.

And maybe… that place could be with you. 💛

You can submit your application for Radio right here.

Or visit the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area located at 3353 Morningside Drive in New Braunfels, call them at (830) 629-5287 or email them at GeneralInfo@HSNBA.org.
