SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio saw an inch to an inch-and-a-half of rain Wednesday night.
For some businesses like San Antonio Pets Alive Medical Care and Adoption Center on Marbach Road, the rain damage has been devastating. Some dogs had to be moved from their cages to other areas of the facility due to flooding.
In the facility’s parvo ward, protecting the most vulnerable animals, the ceiling has caved in. It was renovated four months ago, receiving nearly $40,000 in renovations.
Kristy Ward is the director of marketing and events for San Antonio Pets Alive. She says it’s heartbreaking to see the damage that flooded in overnight.
“It’s continuous leaking,” Ward said. “Then this morning, we all met here which we already planned to do and that’s when we discovered that the damage was far worse. It’s a little devastating because here we are trying to do our best already trying to find sponsors for our events, raise money for some medical pleas that we have. And now here we are asking for more money to fix this.”
But Ward says there’s more repairs that have to be done.
“Over here we have our enrichment and play area that we just got funded with our year-end giving,” she said. “And we’re hoping that there’s not too much damage with that.”
Ward says the damage is pretty bad. But there is an upside.
“We had a roofing company and a construction company reach out thanks to Bill Taylor,” she said.
It was a Facebook post from KENS 5’s very own weather chief that helped flood support in.
“And they’re going to they’re supposed to bring some tarps to help us temporarily for the next two days,” said Ward.
San Antonio Pets Alive will need your help beyond the next 48 hours.
“We’re definitely going to need tons of fosters at least 18 – 20 right now,” she said. “And then funding as well.”
