DALLAS — The most popular baby names for 2024 have been revealed, and you’ll never guess which boy name checked in at No. 77 in Texas.
But more on that in a second.
The data comes from the Social Security Administration, which tracks male and female baby names from its Social Security card application data each year.
And once again, the names at the top were familiar: Liam topped the male rankings for the seventh straight year, at 3,084, while Olivia led the way among female names, at 1,757. Olivia has interchanged with Emma for the top spot over the last few years. Emma barely missed the top spot in 2024, with 1,754 names.

Now for the interesting part, at least for heartbroken North Texas sports fans. The 77th-most popular boy name in Texas in 2024 was Luka. Now, whether all of those baby Lukas — 527 in total — were named after former Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic or not, we don’t know, but we have a sneaking suspicion most of them were. Luka didn’t appear on the Texas baby names list until 2021, after Doncic was already an established star for Dallas.
And, just a wild guess here, the name might slip back off the list for 2025 after Doncic’s trade to the Lakers on Feb. 1.
