BEAUMONT, Texas — A rare and striking sight was captured at the Cattail Marsh in Beaumont of a mother alligator with at least 26 babies riding on her back and swimming nearby.
Photo and video of the moment were taken by photographer Kenyan Guidry, capturing the wildlife refuge’s role in supporting aquatic life in Southeast Texas.


Located along the banks of Hildebrandt Bayou and Willow Marsh Bayou, Cattail Marsh spans 900 acres of wetlands. It features a range of recreational options, bird watching, wildlife photography and more.
Cattail Marsh provides a habitat for numerous aquatic mammals and more than 250 bird species annually, including pelicans, egrets, roseate spoonbills, ducks, ibis, doves and red-winged blackbirds.
The system has drawn attention from environmentalists and wildlife professionals throughout the state, according to the city’s website.
