Doctors told her it is a miracle she is alive.
SAN ANTONIO — Emma Bond survived the unimaginable. The 20-year-old was hit by a wrong-way driver and was pulled out of her truck by a good Samaritan.
Emma’s mother Shara Bond said the last few weeks have been tough.
“She is a really strong girl,” the mom said. “A really strong girl. I am so proud of her.”
On Dec. 21, the 20-year-old was at 27047 Interstate 37 South heading to an early morning shift, when investigators said she was hit by a wrong-way driver.
“All I remember is seeing his headlights,” she said. “And then me swerving.”

Emma was pulled out of her truck by a good Samaritan.
“So thankful for the guy who pulled me out,” she said. “If he wouldn’t have done that, I wouldn’t be here.”
“She is here,” her mother said.
“God put me here for a reason,” Emma said. “You have to think that. You need to do whatever you can to make it through because you are here for a reason.”
Emma’s injuries are extensive. To name a few, she has fractured ribs, a fractured eye socket and issues with her hip.
“When we hit, my femur broke and it kind of went up into my pelvis,” she said.
Emma said doctors told her it is a miracle she is alive.
“They are like if I read your chart, I would not expect to see you,” she said.
Shara said since it happened, her daughter has been positive.
“It is the only way to be,” Emma said. “Because if not, you are just going to be down.”
This week, she started rehab and is getting better everyday. She is slowly gaining strength to be able to walk again.
“I can’t just find it in me to be angry,” she said. “All I am doing is healing. So, once I get better, I will be fine. It is just a rough road right now.”
The wrong-way driver was killed in the crash. His passenger did survive. At the time, the Bond family said he was intoxicated. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office told KENS 5 they’re waiting on toxicology results.
Emma said her message to others is to think before getting behind the wheel.
“Be careful,” she said. “And always have a plan.”
