Reasons to Smile: Waco Police K-9 Andor recovering well after injury

Waco Police K-9 Andor is out of his cast and off antibiotics, showing strong recovery as he adjusts to a limp.

WACO, Texas — Waco Police Department K-9 Andor is out of his cast and off antibiotics as he continues recovering from a serious injury that left him with screws in his leg, shoulder and scapula.

According to the department, Andor is adapting well, despite a slight limp. His handler, Officer Bucher, is focused on keeping the enthusiastic K-9 calm during recovery to ensure proper healing and prevent further injury.

Though restrictions remain in place, officers say Andor shows the same determined spirit that makes him an invaluable part of the Waco Police K-9 Unit.

“He thinks it’s time to go to work every time they step outside,” the department shared in a social media update. “He is one tough K-9!”

According to the department, Andor was shot multiple times on May 28 while trying to apprehend a suspect. After receiving treatment at multiple animal medical facilities, Andor was able to return home in early June, where he will reportedly retire due to his injuries.

The man accused of shooting Andor has since been indicted in federal court on a gun charge.
