Recycled toothpaste tubes turn into benches and tables for San Antonio schools

Officials say the tables and benches will be used at SAIDS schools for years to come.

SAN ANTONIO — It’s something we’ve all used – toothpaste tubes, and now they’re being transformed into something new for San Antonio students.

San Antonio ISD schools received donated benches and tables, made from recycled oral care waste, thanks to a partnership with TerraCycle and Arm & Hammer.

“This Earth Day, ARM & HAMMER is giving used toothpaste tubes a second life. Thanks to our partnership with TerraCycle, we’re helping reduce waste from landfills and transforming toothpaste tubes into durable benches and tables that will support San Antonio students for years to come,” said Xi Chen, Senior Director of Marketing, Arm & Hammer Toothpaste.

Historically used toothpaste tubes were believed to be hard-to-recycle materials, but this campaign proves items like these can be  transformed into something new and useful across SAISD schools and the world.

The benches and tables were presented to SAISD at the National School Boards Association 2026 Annual Conference, where administrators got a firsthand look and even tested them out.
