Red Cross closes its Family Assistance Center in Kerrville

The Family Assistance Center was only for those with injured, missing, or loved ones who died.

KERRVILLE, Texas — As folks in Kerr County continue to try to recover from the flooding, the Red Cross has closed its Family Assistance Center.

The Family Assistance Center was only for those with injured, missing, or loved ones who died.

The number of missing did dramatically drop from over 90 to just two who remain unaccounted for this week.

While we can’t say this is the sole reason for the closure, we can assume that the mission has turned into one of recovery, with some of the other resources offered at the Family Assistance Center at the B.T. Wilson Sixth Grade School now going virtual.

Those who need access to those resources can now access a virtual Family Assistance Center by calling (844) 576-2126.

Anyone will be able to speak with trauma-informed, trained responders. The people who answer will also be able to help caller navigate through the process and refer callers to partner-service providers that have been vetted.

This is not the disaster recovery centers, those are still open for face-to face help for those who have damage or loss from the storms. Those centers are at LJ Vineyards, formerly Bridget’s Basket in Hunt, and the First Baptist Church in Kerrville.

The hotline for the virtual Family Assistance Center is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every single day.
