REPORT: 2 East Texas educators among 60 teachers under investigation for certification fraud

Both teachers are athletic coaches for the each district’s high schools.

TYLER, Texas — Two East Texas educators have been named in a list of over 160 teachers across Texas under investigation for allegedly getting fraudulent certifications Thursday.

Taisha Holt of Lufkin ISD, and Reginald Hill of Carthage ISD are both pending investigation for 6.3 Educator Certification Fraud. The cases against them were opened on Feb. 4, according to a list released by the Texas Education Agency.

Holt is currently listed as the head track coach at Lufkin High School on the district’s website, while Hill is listed as an assistant football coach for Carthage High School on Carthage ISD’s.

In December 2024, four other educators from East Texas came under investigation from the TEA in a similar statewide teacher certification scandal.

Carthage spokesperson Marlo Bitter released a statement on the matter Thursday evening reading:

“Carthage ISD was notified by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) on Tuesday that a district employee is under investigation in connection with an alleged testing scheme. While we cannot discuss personnel matters, we are fully cooperating with TEA and will follow all applicable state regulations and district policy.”

CBS19 is currently awaiting comment from Lufkin ISD on the investigation.
