A report comes out that the San Antonio Spurs could be a potential trade destination for Kevin Durant.
SAN ANTONIO — The next NBA home for Suns’ Kevin Durant has been a hot topic this offseason, and a recent report from ESPN’s Shams Charania put the San Antonio Spurs as a possible landing spot.
According to the report, the Suns and Kevin Durant’s business partner, Rich Kleiman, are weighing trade options with Houston, San Antonio, Minnesota, Miami and New York at the forefront.
Durant, 36, has one year left on his deal ($54.7 million). He averaged 26.6 points, along with 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists, in 62 games last year, and was named an All-Star, demonstrating his impact as a player despite his relatively old age.
If he is traded, then it becomes a question of whether he’ll sign an extension beyond next season. ESPN reports that Durant will be eligible to sign a two-year contract extension on July 6, worth approximately $112 million. Should he wait six months after a trade, he could sign a two-year extension worth nearly $124 million.
What trade package might San Antonio send to the Suns? Names like Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan and Keldon Johnson are the likely candidates to get traded, as are any of the Spurs draft picks, including this summer’s No. 14 pick at the 2025 NBA Draft.
