Report: Riley Minix returning to Spurs on two-way deal

Minix becomes the second player to be signed by San Antonio on a two-way contract.

SAN ANTONIO — Riley Minix, the 6-foot-7, 230-pound forward who went undrafted last year before being acquired by the San Antonio Spurs, is returning to the team on a two-way contract, according to ESPN reports.

Though not as monumental as Monday’s news that San Antonio and De’Aaron Fox had agreed to a $229 million contract extension keeping him in town through the 2029-2030 season, signing Minix gives the Spurs more flexibility at the forward position should the need arise. It’s the second two-way deal the Spurs have handed out this offseason, having also signed Summer League standout David Jones-Garcia last month.

Minix, 24, was signed by San Antonio out of Morehead State last summer and went on to appear in a handful of G League Austin Spurs games, averaging 12.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. He played seven minutes in his lone game for the San Antonio Spurs on Nov. 6, grabbing a pair of rebounds and missing his long shot attempt.

The two-day deal means Minix is likely to see more G League action this year, starting the season in Austin. But it also, along with Jones-Garcia, makes him primed to be called up for game action in the Alamo City as the season evolves.

Players on two-way contracts can only appear in up to 50 games for their NBA team.
