Kevin Durant is considering the Spurs, Heat, and Rockets as potential trade destinations.
SAN ANTONIO — The next NBA home for Suns’ Kevin Durant has been a hot topic this offseason, and a recent report from ESPN’s Shams Charania names the San Antonio Spurs as a possible landing spot.
According to the report, Durant has narrowed down his preferred teams to the Spurs, Heat, and Rockets, should he be traded.
In addition, the teams listed are ones he is willing to sign a long-term deal.
“Those across the NBA have been made aware in recent days that those are the three teams that Durant would commit to long-term.”
Durant, 36, has one year left on his deal ($54.7 million). He averaged 26.6 points, along with 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists, in 62 games last year, and was named an All-Star, demonstrating his impact as a player despite his relatively young age.
If he is traded, ESPN reports that Durant will be eligible to sign a two-year contract extension on July 6, worth approximately $112 million. Should he wait six months after a trade, he could sign a two-year extension worth nearly $124 million.
What trade package might San Antonio send to the Suns? Names like Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, and Keldon Johnson are the likely candidates to get traded, as are any of the Spurs draft picks, including this summer’s No. 14 pick at the 2025 NBA Draft.
Adding Durant to the Spurs would be a boost, but are the Spurs willing to part with key players and draft assets that are key in the franchise’s current rebuild?
