CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As you’re roaming through the aisles of the grocery store this Thanksgiving season, you may see that the cost of things like sweet potatoes, frozen peas, carrots, and celery cost less than they did a year ago.
The American Farm Bureau Federation, or AFBF, reports that those as well as popular ingredients like turkey, pumpkin pie mix, pie crusts, and whole milk prices have also dropped.
But if you’re looking for your favorite dinner rolls, cubed stuffing, cranberries, or whipped cream, the organization has added those ingredients along with most processed foods to their list of items whose prices have increased since last year.
This year the average cost to make a meal for 10 people in the U.S. will cost just over $58.08, while it cost $61.17 in 2023 and just over $64.05 in 2022.
There is good news for Texans. Compared to other regions, AFBF research shows that the southern part of the U.S. will be paying less than the national average at $56.81.
Although the average price of a meal is down by 5% this year, the organization’s year-after-year analysis shows that the price is still almost 20% higher than in 2019.
