Report: Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama will not play at EuroBasket 2025

Victor Wembanyama will skip EuroBasket 2025 to focus on recovery.

SAN ANTONIO — According to a report via French website Le Parisien, San Antonio Spurs‘ Victor Wembanyama will not participate in EuroBasket 2025 with Team France.

Wemby will not be on the Team France roster, considering he dealt with shoulder blood clots (deep vein thrombosis). His offseason priority will be rehabilitation and getting ready for the 2025-26 season.

“Returning to team training? I think we’re very close to that, yes,” said Spurs’ RC Buford, in an interview with L’Equipe.

Said Buford: “I don’t know at all. I think it’s still too early. It will depend largely on how his health develops,” on the All-Star center playing for Team France.

This is a significant blow to France’s pursuit of an Olympic spot. Reports also say that Rudy Gobert will not play this summer.

Despite this, Wemby has admitted he has added more size to his frame,

While at Fanatics Fest 2025, he was a guest on actor Kevin Hart’s “Cold As Balls” live show, where he opened up about his weight and how much he has added to his frame (now 245 pounds) heading into the 2025-26 season.

“I gained probably like 30 pounds,” Wembanyama said about how much muscle he has added since entering the league. “I’m in strength training, of course, but the main thing for me is I could, in theory, put on a lot of weight, but I would lose some of my mobility, some of my athleticism.”
