Rescue crews received dozens of calls for high water rescues Thursday

The heavy downpours created problems for San Antonio drivers across the city, causing water to pool on the roads making it difficult to navigate.

SAN ANTONIO — Thunderstorms moved through San Antonio overnight causing low water crossings to overflow and making it difficult for drivers to navigate.

There have been more than a dozen incidents reported of drivers needing to be evacuated or rescued since the storms began.

10 people were safely rescued, according to SAFD. Of those rescued, four required a trip to the hospital to receive medical attention for their injuries. Sadly, two people have been found deceased and two more remain missing.

A large majority of the incidents are on the northeast side of town, between O’Connor Road and the merge at I-35 North at Loop 1604.

The flooding is also bad on Weidner Road, where you can see there is a car stuck in the water, and the driver had to leave their vehicle behind.

Barricades are set up in most areas with high water. We’re right beside them. Some drivers are just driving through looking at the water and then turning around.

Remember the best way to stay to safe is to “turn around, don’t drown.”

Another problem area is Lookout Road at O’Connor Road. Multiple people have been rescued by firefighters from vehicles caught up in the high water. Rescue crews found them on top of a FedEx truck.

We will continue to update this story as we learn of more problems across San Antonio.
