Rice University officials said they were investigating a potential homicide at Jones College on Monday.
A “potential homicide” investigation was taking place at Rice University, according to university authorities.
It’s going on at Jones College near the intersection of Main Street and Sunset Boulevard.
An alert went out to students telling them to stay in their rooms. Faculty and staff members were also told to shelter in place until further notice. That order was lifted a little before 7 p.m.
KHOU 11 political analyst Bob Stein told KHOU 11 News that Monday was the first day of class for the fall semester.
According to Rice, all classes and activities for the rest of the day were canceled.
Rice University police are investigating. The Houston Police Department said it was also sending homicide investigators to the scene.
It’s unclear exactly what happened, but KHOU 11 News is working to gather more information and will update this story when we get it.
