SAN ANTONIO — It’s a new era for VIA bus riders!
VIA Metropolitan Transit announced riders can now use the “tap to pay” features on all buses. The fares remain unchanged at $1.30 per trip.
According to a press release, VIA completed the installation of new fare boxes – that makes paying quicker and easier for customers. Riders can pay using Apple, Google, or Samsung mobile wallets along with contactless debit and credit cards.
Riders can also continue using cash, VIA’s Mobile+ app, the Transit app, or a goCard.
In addition, to the “tap to pay” feature VIA also launched its new goCard Lite smartcard, replacing the previous pre-loaded magnetic strip e-cards. Riders can purchase or exchange their fare cards for the new goCardLite at customer service ticket windows. Pre-loaded goCard Lite smartcards are available at H-E-B stores.
VIA officials believe this new feature will speed up boarding and reduce delays. The feature was added to all buses on Monday, Feb. 10.
Riders with questions or concerns can call VIA at 210-362-2020.
