Roads close in San Antonio area due to heavy rain and storms Wednesday

Early morning storms caused road closures in San Antonio, affecting the morning commute.

SAN ANTONIO — Storms once again hit the San Antonio area and surrounding counties Wednesday morning, affecting the morning commute and road conditions.

Heavy rain fell for hours across portions of the I-35 corridor, including the northern San Antonio area. Some gauges have reported 2 to 3 inches of rain in one hour. 

Conditions were still very wet as of late morning and Bexar County officials reported several roads closed in the county, including Alamo Heights and Bitters Road Wednesday morning. Many of them were back open as of last check at 11 a.m.

Several cars also had to be rescued from the area of Highway 281 near Thousand Oaks and Brook Hollow. Most of the lanes of Highway 281 were back open by late morning.
