SAN ANTONIO — Thousands of runners in San Antonio will be lacing up their shoes this weekend for the Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon, the final year of the event in the Alamo City.
The event takes place Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8, with various activities over both days. The courses will take runners through some iconic and historic parts of downtown and central San Antonio. The courses will also require traffic closures that will affect travel in the downtown area.
The 5K and 10K events are on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. and have the same start and finish line:
- Start Line: Milam Park, Corner of W. Houston St and N. Santa Rosa St.
- Finish Line: Travis Park
The full and half marathons are on Sunday and also have the same start and finish line:
- Start Line: San Antonio City Hall – 100 Military Plaza (S Flores between W. Commerce and Dolorosa)
- Finish Line: UTSA Downtown Campus – 501 W. Cesar Chavez Blvd
As part of the event, there is also a health and wellness expo taking places at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Friday and Saturday.
As for traffic closures, each day’s courses are separate, so there will be different closures Saturday and Sunday.
The city recommends downloading the Waze app to keep up to date on race-related road closures and how they affect your particular route.
This is the last year the Rock ‘N’ Roll marathon will be in San Antonio. Moving forward, San Antonio Sports will host their own version the first weekend of December.
