SAN ANTONIO — The 2025 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is just days away. Preparation for the big event began Monday morning and it’s dirty work for all involved.
That’s because 2,100 tons of soil will be poured at the Frost Bank Center. This is a long time tradition for the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.
Crews started around 4 a.m. and will continue for at least the next six hours.
The video above shows the transformation from last year’s dirt day, and you can see it’s a lot of work. But it’s necessary to put on a competitive rodeo.
Organizers say the dirt is made up of a unique blend of sand and other stuff to maximize the performance for animal athletes.
The age of the soil also makes it special. The rodeo uses the same dirt it purchased back in 1988 near Charlotte, Texas. This saves them about $20,000 to $25,000 dollars each year. They do clean it each year.
