Rookie Dylan Harper’s first NBA home-opening game lived up to his expectations

“Crowd is crazy,” said Spurs’ Dylan Harper after experiencing his first San Antonio home crowd.

SAN ANTONIO — After two road games to start the new season, the San Antonio Spurs finally played their home-opening game against the visiting Nets.

In front of a sell-out crowd (19,016), the Spurs did not disappoint the fans at the Frost Bank Center with a 118-107 win to remain perfect to start the new season at 3-0.

And the youngest player on the roster, Dylan Harper, got to experience his first NBA home opening game, and he was left impressed by the fan energy.

“Crowd is crazy. I mean, you wouldn’t want it any other way, as your first NBA home game and just at your home arena.”

Adding to the excitement was Harper’s clutch play in the second half.

After the Spurs squandered a 26-point lead to Brooklyn, it was the rookie guard who rallied the team, going 3-for-3 shooting at the rim in the fourth period and 4-for-6 shooting in the second half and stepping up when the team needed a boost.

“Just make an impact. Anyway, I can try to turn the game around, whether that’s picking someone up 94 feet getting steel or that’s passing the ball, whether that’s scoring, whatever,” he said.

His performance off the bench got the crowd roaring, the new fan section “The Jackals” cheering loudly and putting smiles on fans’ faces as they exited the game after the final buzzer.

“Just seeing all that and all the supporters and all the fans, I mean, it’s going to be a great season.”

Off the bench, Harper finished the game with 20 points, a team-high eight assists to help the Spurs secure a 118- 107 win over Brooklyn and help move the team to a perfect 3-0 start to the season.

And with the hot start to the season, Harper and the team are giving fans plenty of reason to head to the Frost Bank Center to cheer on the team as loudly as they can.

“Just playing in front of our fans and just seeing how loud the gym really gets. I don’t think there’s no other place,” he said.
