Roope Hintz left Game 2 unable to put any weight on his left foot after being slashed in the third period by Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse.
DALLAS — Dallas Stars forward Roope Hintz confirmed he fractured his foot after being slashed by Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse, according to Stars beat writer Robert Tiffin.
Hintz went down in Game 2 of the Western Conference Final and couldn’t put any weight on it. Hintz was out for Game 3, but played in Game 4 and Game 5.
Nurse was given a two-minute minor for the slash, sparking controversy that it should have been a five-minute major.
Dallas Stars head coach Pete DeBoer spoke about the penalty after Game 2, where he very clearly wasn’t a fan of the call from the refs.
“I’ll answer your question with a question, does anyone in this room think if Connor McDavid gets carried off the ice like that, it’s not a five-minute major,” DeBoer asked. “That’s my answer to your question.”
In an immediate follow-up question, DeBoer was asked to comment about Mason Marchment’s comments, where the fellow Stars player felt there was “intent” with Nurse’s slash.
“Again, if that’s 97 [McDavid] carried off the ice, in the same situation, I think we all know the answer to what that looks like for us,” DeBoer answered.
Hintz scored one of Dallas’ three goals in the final game of the series, where the Stars lost 6-3.
