The airport has added new parking to handle the uptick in crowds.
SAN ANTONIO — Thanksgiving is just one week away, with tomorrow marking the beginning of the holiday travel season.
30 million fliers are expected to travel across the country, many of them originating right here in San Antonio.
The San Antonio International Airport expects 20% more fliers than last year’s Thanksgiving holiday. But they say there’s plenty of parking and options for travelers.
“We’re on our way to Miami, Florida, to visit my son and his family,” said Valerie Cooper who flies often and uses the airport shuttles.
Cooper told us, “We get out of our car and the shuttles are right there. We only have to maybe wait a minute, two minutes tops.”
Ryan Rocha, the SA Airport Chief of Operations said, “The shuttle is the most convenient way to the front curb of the terminal. It really takes you from your parking space all the way to the curb, which is very convenient.”
Tonya Hope, an SA Airport spokesperson told us, “We want to make sure that our travelers have a seamless stress free travel experience when they’re in the airport. That means to plan ahead.”
30 million people are expected to fly for the Thanksgiving holiday. 30,000 of those will travel to or from the San Antonio airport.
The 10-day holiday travel period begins tomorrow, with the busiest days to fly out being the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and the busiest return day the Sunday after.
And, if you don’t want to deal with parking, rideshare is a popular option.
Rocha said, “It’s a very convenient option for a lot of our customers and they use it and they use it a lot, especially out here on the curb.”
Valet parking through Fly Away Valet is also available. And you can even make a reservation online.
But if you’re self-parking you should have no trouble finding a space, including in this new red lot.
Rocha added, “We have planned an additional 500 spaces this year.”
