Carmen Arroyo and her sister Lily are seeing the trail of damage left behind after a fire erupted at the back of their parents’ home.

“Just to see it all gone, it just really hurts,” Carmen said. “All of our memories, my kids have learned to all walk in this house. They grew up in this house.” Her sister echoed her concerns.

“I know mom is just gonna have to get rid of everything,” Lily said.

Their mother says it’s hard to breathe in what remains of her home.

“This is where I saw the flames,” the mother said. “There’s more charcoal here than when the fire started.”

The family is doing what they can to clean the mess left behind. SAFD confirmed the fire broke out in the back of the home. Officials say the flames were put out in 20 minutes.

The family says the devastation is too much for their elderly parents to handle.

“My dad is partially blind so now he’s staying somewhere else,” Lily said. “And he’s having to learn and I’m scared he’s gonna hurt himself, he’s gonna fall. I mean this was their home this is where they were comfortable.”

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

“I’m trying to do everything i can to reach out to the community to see if there’s any help out there that we can get to just help them get back in their home,” Lily said.
