SAN ANTONIO — The ever-vigilant surveillance cameras at National Trench Safety on Interstate 35 near Splashtown Drive captured several angles of a violent shooting incident Sunday morning around 10:30 a.m.
The shooting ended with one of the cars that was involved crashing through their chain-link fence and coming to rest at the back of their lot.
Reviewing the footage, Branch Manager Kevin Chaloupka pointed out the moment when two sedans can be seen driving near one another when gunshots rang out. The two cars, which were heading northbound at the time, crashed into one another and careened out of control.
“They start to limp out. You see the guy hopping away. The driver is on the ground and then they just kind of wander around,” Chaloupka said of the victims after the crash.
Chaloupka said after the injured driver got out of the car, the vehicle continued to roll until it came to rest on some nearby equipment.
Reflecting on the distance covered and the number of shots fired, Chaloupka said, “What’s amazing is they didn’t hit any other cars with cars or bullets!”
Reviewing video of the four suspects running away wearing all black clothing, Chaloupka said none of them looked like they were injured either in the shooting or the ensuing crash.
Another angle of the crash shows the men running past a fence and one of them dropping an object in the grass.
Chaloupka said he checked the area as soon as he saw the footage, but found nothing in the spot.
San Antonio police said anyone with clues about the identity of the assailants can call their non-emergency number at (210) 207-SAPD.
