SA homeowner fed up after cameras capture driver running someone over in east-side neighborhood

The concerned homeowner says he is worried about escalating neighborhood violence after a driver hit a pedestrian, urging authorities and officials for a solution.

SAN ANTONIO — An east-side homeowner is fed up with what he describes as “nuisance neighbors” but says he is worried nothing will be done before someone is seriously hurt.

On Sunday morning, his surveillance camera captured the moment a driver hit someone with their vehicle. A fight then broke out between several people.

“It was an hour-long back and forth between the two groups,” Moe Richard said.

It happened in the Sunrise neighborhood. Moe Richard moved there five years ago and said he never had any issues until his neighbors moved in about a year ago.

“Each time there’s an altercation with this particular house on the street, it gets worse and worse,” Richard said.

According to SAPD, since June of 2024, they have been called out to the home eight times for disturbances and welfare checks.

“I used to be able to take my daughter out. We could ride on the street, ride the bike,” Richard said. “But lately we haven’t felt safe.”

Police labeled Sunday’s incident as a disturbance call again. Richard said he showed officers on scene his video but they told him the victim is not cooperating so no arrests were made.

Richard then took his frustrations to the Nextdoor website.

“Social media was my last resort because I told my wife, ‘What else is there to do?’” Richard said. “We call the cops. Other neighbors call the cops. They come. Knock. Nobody answers or they come for a little bit, goes back to normal then the same thing happens.”

From there, his neighbors advised him to contact the SAFFE officer. He said he has called several times and is waiting for a response.

“I’m just hoping that we get some help. Please, we need help on this street,” Richard said.

Richard said he is also reaching out to District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez. A staff member for McKee-Rodriguez said once they hear from him, they will do their best to help Richard.
