Police say the incident happened after the victim told authorities he accidently let his roommates pets out of the home.
SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio man was arrested Saturday night after police say he threatened to kill his roommate, sparking a nearly seven-hour standoff on the west side.
San Antonio police were called to the home on Cincinnati Avenue near St. Mary’s University around 3 p.m. after a report of a disturbance involving a gun.
When officers arrived, a victim told them his roommate, identified as 52-year-old Bobby Rocha, pointed a gun at him and threatened to kill him.
The victim told officers the confrontation began after he accidentally let Rocha’s pets outside.
Police said Rocha refused to leave the home and barricaded himself inside.
A neighbor who witnessed the commotion told KENS 5 he returned home to what felt like a “war zone,” adding he initially feared someone had been killed.
“For how things are right now, I thought it was a raid,” the neighbor said. “I was scared.”
Officers spent hours trying to convince Rocha to surrender, using both a megaphone and a cellphone.
Police warned the public to avoid the area because the home was considered dangerous during the standoff.
Just before 10 p.m., Rocha exited the home with his hands raised and was taken into custody without further incident, officials said.
The neighbor, who said he has lived in the normally quiet area for about 15 years, described Rocha as someone who generally kept to himself.
He said the incident left him shaken but questioned whether such a large police response was necessary.
“It was a lot of commotion,” he said. “A lot of commotion for nothing.”
Rocha is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is currently being held in Bexar County awaiting a court appearance.
