Social media plea by SAPD resulted in two additional victims filing complaints.
SAN ANTONIO — An 18-year-old is now charged with three violent attacks in two days that all happened between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Avory Michael Rowe is charged with murder and two cases of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in what appears to be random, unrelated attacks.
San Antonio Police drew attention to the murder when they posted pictures of their suspect on social media and asked for help in finding him.
Court records indicate police were called to the Alazan hiking trail the morning of December 24.
An affidavit for an arrest warrant for Rowe says 49-year-old Robert Ibarra was found dead under the San Jacinto Street bridge just after 8 a.m.
The document says Ibarra’s head was covered in blood from several blunt force trauma wounds and there was a large rock inches away.
It goes on to detail that Ibarra was wearing several shirts but his pants were wadded up and placed in his lap.
During an autopsy, the medical examiner ruled that Ibarra had also been strangled.
Two days later, investigators were advised Rowe admitted to the killing to another person living at Haven for Hope. During a search of Rowe’s personal belongings in his locker, police reported finding another pair of bloody pants.
With a confession, physical evidence and the positive ID Rowe used to be admitted to the shelter, police launched an effort to find their suspect.
Three days after the murder, police posted a plea on their Facebook page, asking the public for help in locating the teen.
Hours later, police posted an update saying Rowe had been taken into custody.
In addition to tips, they also heard from two additional victims.
The first attack was reported by a victim who told police he recognized Rowe from the social media post.
An affidavit related to this attack details the incident, on the far south side on Quintana Road, was recorded by surveillance cameras at a nearby business.
The document said Rowe was clearly recognizable in the video.
The affidavit reads: “The defendant was recognizable… by his physical build, clothing, as well as head and facial features.”
The affidavit details how the male victim told police Rowe pulled an object out of his pocket and repeatedly hit him in the head, causing serious injuries.
The document makes the point that the two attacks were only four hours apart and both involved multiple blunt force injuries.
The victim told police he fought back and escaped by jumping in his vehicle and driving away.
Another victim who came forward after the social media plea told police she was attacked in her apartment on Fredericksburg Road Christmas night.
The 21-year-old woman told police she recognized the man, who showed up at her door and introduced himself only as “Avory.”
She told investigators Avory arrived with a friend and several people visited for a time before the victim decided to go to bed.
The victim said as she was falling asleep she felt a pain under her chin and realized Avory was holding a knife to her throat.
The woman told police when she grabbed the man’s arm, pushed him away and started to scream for help, the man ran from the apartment. The affidavit says the woman had a minor cut.
The affidavit reads the victim “believed the only reason she was able to stop the defendant from killing her was due to the defendant being intoxicated at the time.”
Online records indicate Rowe remains in the Bexar County Jail under substantial bonds: $250,000 for the murder charge and $200,000 each for both counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
If he were to come up with bond money, a magistrate has also imposed special conditions for release including full house arrest with GPS and no firearms possession or use.
There is no word on a motive for this two-day trail of terror.
