INYO COUNTY, Calif. — Officials in California have confirmed a San Antonio man was found dead along a high-elevation trail at Mt. Whitney.
Saturday, the Inyo County Search and Rescue said on Facebook the body of Taylor Rodriguez was found on a trail at an elevation of 12,000 feet. The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to KENS 5 that Rodriguez is from San Antonio. An earlier post on social media said it was believed he was attempting to summit Mt. Whitney on Dec. 30.
Mt. Whitney is known as being a difficult trail with ice patches in the Winter, requiring special gear in many cases.
The search was conducted with the help of the Army National Guard, CHP Inland Division Air Operations, CHP Central Division Air Operations, CalOES FIRIS (High altitude imaging plane), Mono County SAR, and China Lake Mountain Rescue Group (Kern County).
“We extend our deepest condolences to Taylor’s family and friends during this difficult time,” the organization said in a statement on Facebook.
