In juvenile court on Thursday, the teen told the judge he did nothing wrong.
SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio teen accused of running from police with a rifle in hand appeared in juvenile court Thursday morning.
Police said they were serving a warrant at a home on the 300 block of Micklejohn Walk Street on Wednesday afternoon.
That’s when police said they heard a gunshot from inside the home and saw the 15-year-old suspect running away.
The teen allegedly jumped from a second-floor window to get away from authorities.
As he ran from police, officials said he was armed with a rifle. Police detained the teen at the scene and found a rifle near the staircase he allegedly tried to run up.
In court on Thursday, the teen said he did nothing wrong.
“I did not shoot that gun,” the teen said to Judge Jaqueline Valdez.
The 15-year-old’s mother also appeared before Judge Valdez to defend her son.
“My son would never risk his life for his free will. I don’t believe he shot a gun,” she said.
The teen already faces a charge for possession of a controlled substance from August of 2024 and is on probation.
His probation officer said he hadn’t seen the teen since February, so a warrant was issued.
When the judge asked his mother where he’d been, she couldn’t tell the judge.
In court Thursday, the teen’s probation officer said drugs and other weapons were found inside the home the 15-year-old was in at the time of the incident.
The judge chose to keep the teen detained. His next detention hearing will be July 18 at 9 a.m.
