SA Veterans Memorial’s second loss of the season comes just one game before 5A state title

For back-to-back seasons, the Patriots see their state championship hopes fade in the semifinals.

SAN ANTONIO — The number one ranked high school boys basketball team in the San Antonio area, Veterans Memorial, ran into their hardest test of the season as they fall just one game short of the 5A State Championship for the second year in a row.

In the past two seasons, the Patriots have only lost one district game and have a total record of 76-6. Both years have posed some of the best in school history as they’re still in search of their first state title ever.

The Patriots outplayed the Killeen Ellison Eagles on defense with 9 total steals, but the Eagles’ three-point attack was too much as that showed to be the difference in the score. The Eagles had four more three-pointers than the Patriots did and won the game by 12 points.

The final score was 59-47.

Senior Damarion Dennis did all he could with a 19 point outing in his last game as a Patriot.
