The San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum announced Legacy Ball to raise money for new African American museum.
SAN ANTONIO — Happening Tuesday, you can learn how you can make a change tackling real world issues with the lineup announcement for DreamWeek 2025.
DreamWeek is the nation’s largest community curated summit supporting the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior to bridge the gap between people and ideas from across the community.
Organizers say there are over 250 confirmed events for this year’s DreamWeek.
“We are neighbors,” is the theme for this year’s summit.
Tuesday’s press conference will include Mayor Ron Nirenberg and DreamWeek Founder Shokare Nakpodia who will be going over this year’s lineup in detail.
More than 150 organizations and businesses are involved in this year’s summit including — the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum, also known as SAAACAM.
“There’s something for everyone. They arere going to be people who are going to be able to go to programing for these weeks, maybe three or four times a day,” said Jeff May Jr., SAAACAM Chief Administrative Officer.
The events are going to be at different venues around Downtown San Antonio.
From feeding 1000 meals to the hungry, yoga at the botanical gardens, and panels regarding the state of the black woman and youth leadership, another event to support DreamWeek and SAAACAM is the Legacy Ball happening Friday evening.
“If we don’t elevate who we are as a people and what we’ve done, who’s going to do that? Who’s going to make space and do that? We have to do that ourselves, and we want to do it in a way that makes our community, ancestors, and our children proud,” said May.
Tickets purchased for this event will go towards SAAACAM’s plan to move to the downtown Kress building, which would make it the third largest African-American Museum in the country.
DreamWeek kicks off on Friday and will end on Jan. 26.
Tuesday’s press conference is going to be happening at the Malu Theater at 5 p.m.
