DEL RIO, Texas — A Sabinal High School teacher and coach was sentenced to 30 years in prison for attemping to entice a minor online, federal authorities say.
Kenneth Wayn Mulkey, 43, was arrested on Jan. 31, 2025, and charged with attempted enticement of a minor.
According to documents, on Oct. 11, 2024, Mulkey allegedly asked an undercover special agent for their age, sex and location through the social media app Snapchat. The undercover agent then identified himself as a 14-year-old boy and Mulkey told him he was a 40-year-old football and track coach. Mulkey also sent a photo of himself and discussed sexually related topics before asking the minor to send an explicit photo, which the minor declined.
According to an affidavit, the next day Mulkey sent a sexually explicit photo of himself to the undercover agent, he believed was the teenage boy. Upon further investigation, Mulkey’s geolocation stated he was within 40 meters of Sabinal High School when he asked for the sexually explicit photos.
Friday, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Texas confirmed Mulkey was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
