SAN ANTONIO — SAFD is on scene of a brush fire in a trail area near an east-side campground.
Not much information is confirmed at this point, but officials were called for a brush fire around the area of 3800 East Commerce Street around 6:54 p.m. Friday.
SAFD says that the fire is in the trail area. Fire officials say the owner of the KOA campsite off Gembler Road inquired about possibly evacuating.
“I noticed the smoke from the west side of the campground and it kind of sounded like fireworks were going off,” Cory with KOA Campgrounds said. “Having a park full of campers, we were terrified.”
KOA camp staff say did what they’re doing what they can to try to keep any pop-up fires from spreading as SAFD battles the flames.
