SAN ANTONIO — A dog died after fire ripped through a home on the northeast side of town late Tuesday night, SAFD says.
Crews are still working to mop up the last of the fire Wednesday morning.
The two people that live in this home got out safely, but one of their pets, a dog, did not.
The fire happened around midnight in the 6200 block of Panther Peak near Stahl Road.
When firefighters arrived at the house, smoke was billowing from the windows of the second story. They say the bulk of the damage was located at the back corner of the house.
The damage from the smoke and fire was so severe, according to firefighters, that it took more than half an hour to get it under control.
The family did make it out safe, but their dog unfortunately, was found by firefighters on the second floor and did not make it.
Officials say the family has been forced to find somewhere else to stay.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time as fire investigators are working to figure that out.
This is a developing story.
