SAFD: Electrical issue sparks attic fire on southeast side of San Antonio

Firefighters were able to gain access to the attic, locate the source of the flames, and stop the fire from spreading to the rest of the home.

SAN ANTONIO — Firefighters were able to quickly knock down an attic fire early Sunday morning, preventing major damage to a home on the city’s southeast side.

The San Antonio Fire Department was called to the 100 block of Mary Helen Drive, near South WW White Road, around 1:28 a.m. for reports of a structure fire.

When crews arrived, they saw light smoke coming from the attic area of the house. Firefighters were able to gain access to the attic, locate the source of the flames, and stop the fire from spreading to the rest of the home.

SAFD says the fire was caused by an electrical issue.

Everyone inside the home made it out safely, and no injuries were reported. The home sustained minor damage.

Fire officials remind residents to regularly check electrical systems and report any signs of smoke or unusual odors right away.
