SAFD: Family displaced after fire heavily damages their Stone Oak home

Firefighters say when they got to the house, there was already heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the home.

SAN ANTONIO — A family is now displaced after a fire tore through their Stone Oak home late Tuesday night.

The fire first sparked on Whisper Canyon just off Huebner Road just after 11:30 p.m.

Firefighters say when they got to the house, there was already heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the home.

According to the battalion chief, the fire started outside the home on the back patio, but it crawled up a wall and shot across the attic once the flames made its way inside.

It took a while for crews to knock down the fire, and they say the flames also caused the roof to partially collapse.

Thankfully, the family inside was able to escape, and no firefighters were injured.

But first responders say the house was severely damaged. The family is now displaced and getting help from emergency organizations.

No word yet on the cause of the fire.
