SAFD: Firefighters investigating large warehouse fire

Once firefighters got inside the warehouse, they found a large pile with bags of potato chips on fire.

The San Antonio Fire Department is investigating a warehouse fire that happened early Monday morning near downtown.

SAFD responded to the 900 block of Monterey Street around 2:23 a.m. for reports of a structure fire.

When first responders arrived, they found heavy smoke showing from a food recycling warehouse.

Officials say it was challenging getting into the large building to locate to origin of the fire so a second alarm was called. 

Once it was opened up they found a large pile of debris, mostly bags of potato chips, on fire. 

They were able to extinguish the fire quickly. SAFD believes the fire had been going for some time before someone passing by eventually called it in. 

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
