SAN ANTONIO — Firefighters quickly contained an early-morning apartment fire on the city’s north side on Friday, preventing the flames from spreading to neighboring units, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
Crews responded around 3:40 a.m. to a reported fire at an apartment complex in the 10100 block of Sahara Drive.
According to officials, firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the upper right corner balcony area of a two-story apartment building that houses four units.
Firefighters launched a quick attack on the fire and ensured all residents were evacuated from the building, officials said.
SAFD said a second alarm was called because of the building’s construction and its close proximity to nearby apartments.
Crews were able to knock down the main body of the fire in less than 30 minutes, containing it to the original apartment unit, according to SAFD.
All four units in the building were occupied at the time of the fire and 14 people are displaced as of now. Fire officials said they were working to help them find temporary accommodations.
Officials also said nearby units sustained smoke and water damage.
No injuries were reported. SAFD said several residents who evacuated were evaluated by EMS for possible smoke inhalation.
