A massive apartment fire left 31 people displaced and a pregnant woman hospitalized as the flames were able to claim every unit in one of the complex’s buildings.
SAN ANTONIO — More than 30 units are currently battling a major fire off Austin Highway.
Around 5:50 p.m., officials responded to an apartment complex located on the 2300 block of Austin Highway after receiving reports of a fire.
Preliminary information from the San Antonio Fire Department suggests the blaze started on a second floor balcony and was upgraded to a second alarm response.
SAFD confirmed that all 24 units in Building 9 of the complex were damaged, leaving a total of 31 residents displaced.
Crews said they were able to control the flames before they were able to damage any other buildings or units.
One pregnant woman was sent to the hospital to be checked out but no firefighters or other individuals were injured during the fire, according to officials.
SAFD said crews will be on fire watch for the remainder of the night to make sure no winds cause anymore flames to catch.
