SAFD: Vehicle crashes into guardrail along freeway, prompting major traffic delays near downtown

SAN ANTONIO — A crash involving a vehicle and a guardrail shut down part of Interstate 35 North near downtown San Antonio on Saturday morning, causing significant traffic delays, according to officials.

The San Antonio Fire Department said crews were called just before 9 a.m. to I-35 North at North New Braunfels Avenue, east of downtown, after a vehicle appeared to have struck the guardrail. No injuries have been reported at this time, according to SAFD.

According to TxDOT San Antonio, I-35 North is closed between Austin Street at Exit 158 and North New Braunfels Avenue at Exit 159 due to the crash. Drivers are advised to expect delays of up to an hour.

It was not immediately clear when the roadway would reopen. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes in the meantime.
