SAFD: Woman found dead, residents displaced after northwest-side apartment fire

The fire was coming from a 2nd-floor unit where the woman’s body was found. Authorities say no other injuries were reported.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman was found dead after a fire broke out at a northwest-side apartment complex, according to authorities.

Just after 11 a.m. Sunday, the San Antonio Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Fredericksburg Place Apartments located at 3425 Fredericksburg Rd.

Once there, they found a significant fire coming from a 2nd-floor unit. It was immediately upgraded to a two-alarm fire out of precaution. Authorities say they knocked down the base within 15 minutes.

While battling the flames, authorities found a woman’s body inside the unit that the fire reportedly started in. Authorities say she was initially stuck on the balcony but was ultimately found just inside the door frame.

No other injuries were reported, and investigators are currently determining the cause of the fire.

Authorities say the fire spread to another apartment in the building. Those two apartment units will be affected by the fire. Out of the eight units in the building, four units received fire, smoke and water damage. The fire department is working with the apartment complex and Red Cross to relocate those displaced.

This fire is still under investigation and KENS 5 will continue to update this article as we learn more.
