SAISD creates three strike policy to keep phones out the classroom

The Board of Trustees met Monday evening having to make a decision before the statewide September 1 deadline banning phones in schools.

SAN ANTONIO — Starting Tuesday, SAISD has a game plan on how it wants to address the cell phone ban at its campuses.

The Board of Trustees met Monday evening so they could make a decision before the September 1 deadline.

Essentially, all SAISD students will need to keep their phones on silent and out of sight throughout the school day.

The district hasn’t uploaded Monday’s nights meeting minute at this time, but some schools have already laid out guidelines.

Lanier High School posted how the ban includes phones, headphones, smart watches, and other communication devices.

Its staff warned there will be consequences for student who don’t follow the policy.

Smith Elementary’s School page goes into more specific details.

The first time your child’s phone is taken, the student can sign to pick it up at the end of the day.

Second offense, the school will hold the phone until the end of the next school day and the parent has to pick it up.

The third offense involves school holding the phone until the parent meets with the principal.

The school will give the parent a call to do this.

The student can be suspended for a day, and they’ll have to turn their phone over to the school every morning for the rest of the school year.

For any questions, be sure to check in with your SAISD campus.
