Parents say safety, staffing and student growth issues at a west side elementary school have gone unaddressed for years.
SAN ANTONIO — Frustration is growing among some San Antonio Independent School District parents who say concerns at Rodriguez Montessori Elementary have gone unresolved for years.
Parents and community members have gathered more than 300 signatures on a petition they plan to present to the district’s Board of Trustees, calling attention to what they describe as ongoing issues with safety, education and student growth.
Among their concerns, parents say students must cross Cesar Chavez Street during school hours without adequate traffic safety measures.
They also say the school has gone without a librarian for the past two years.
In response, families and volunteers — including students from Our Lady of the Lake University — have stepped in, logging more than 500 hours to help keep the library open.
Parents also point to limited options for sixth-grade students, saying some bilingual families have been forced to leave the district for other schools.
They argue these issues should have been addressed through the district’s 2020 bond.
The Rodriguez Montessori Parent Council, PTA board and west side community leaders are expected to present the petition and supporting evidence during a board meeting Tuesday evening.
District officials have not yet publicly responded to the concerns.
