SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio ISD says students and staff at six campuses will see more district police this week after “suspicious individuals” were reported near Hot Wells Middle School on the south side.
Hot Wells, Ball Elementary, Highland Hills Elementary, Schenck Elementary, Steele Montessori and Highlands High schools will have the increase law enforcement presence, according to a letter sent to district families Monday.
“It was reported that two adult males may have attempted to abduct a child” near Hot Wells after school let out for the day on Monday, officials said in that letter. The car’s windows were heavily tinted.
“We encourage students to walk in groups and to always be aware of their surroundings,” officials wrote. “We are asking them, and you, to immediately alert us when anything seems suspicious or out of the ordinary.”
SAISD says the investigation into the Monday incident remains active as of Wednesday afternoon. It started when a Hot Wells student’s family first notified the San Antonio Police Department.
“Safety is a top priority at SAISD schools, and we want to keep families informed of situations as soon as we are able,” officials wrote to families.
The district is connected to two major investigations sparked this year, both involving young suspects. In mid-April, 14-year-old Simon Cuevas III was attacked by a group of students and shot dead after walking home from Brewer Academy on the west side, according to authorities.
A few weeks later, a 13-year-old Rhodes Middle School pupil was arrested and charged with terroristic threat after police said he was planning an attack on the school, an effort his mother allegedly aided in.
