San Antonio ACS officers, geese rescued from ‘slippery situation’ at Woodlawn Lake

No injuries were reported by the officers or the geese.

SAN ANTONIO — Baby geese and San Antonio Animal Care Services officers were rescued Sunday after a “slippery situation” at Woodlawn Lake.

ACS was originally called to a bird rescue after a resident reportedly saw a group of geese running around the dam spillway, looking trapped.

ACS officers were apparently “greeted” by the Mama goose with a “string of angry honks.” Apparently the mother was not happy about strangers scooping up her children.

So, the ACS officers quickly tied a rope off, got a net and rappelled down the embankment to retrieve the geese one by one in a carrier.

After grabbing all the geese, the ACS officers realized they were stuck due to their algae-covered boots and the steep, slick walls, so the ACS officers called San Antonio Park Police and San Antonio Fire for an “unusual” rescue.

SAPD and SAFD responded and set up an extension ladder, helping the ACS officers climb to safety with the geese.

No injuries were reported and the geese later waddled off into the lake with their mother.

ACS posted on Facebook thanking SAPD and SAFD for their assistance in helping not only the geese but the ACS officers as well.
