San Antonio area faces potential driest October on record

San Antonio faces a record dry October as warm temperatures persist, risking the title of driest October if no rain falls soon.

SAN ANTONIO — Summer seems to be in full force in October for the greater San Antonio area.

Since October began, the temperatures have been warm and its been very dry – about 44 days since south-central Texas has seen any beneficial rain. On Sept. 7, San Antonio saw over an inch of rain but since then it’s been bone-dry.

If this continues to be the case for the remainder of the month, the KENS 5 Weather Team said it will be the driest October on record.

The dry pattern in October is raising concerns about drought conditions heading into the holidays. Our weather team confirmed the drought has worsened and expanded in certain areas because of the lack of rainfall this month.

Currently October 1952 is the driest October with only trace amounts of total monthly rain followed by 2024 with .01″ and 1898 with .03″ and finally 1939 with .07″.

There are a few chances for rain during the upcoming weekend but those chances remain slim – with the biggest chance on Saturday, October 25 with a 20% chance of precipitation.
